I’m impressed by people who get books published like chickens eggs. How do you focus on one idea at a time? I had to ask myself: If you were to die today which story would be on your table? You bet the answer was there.

I’ve dreamed ideas. It’s crazy how real it gets. What if what you think is a story you’ve created is a peek into a parallel universe? A “past” life? 👀

White noise, huh? Interesting. I do need music though. I have a playlist for each story, its own soundtrack 😅 On this note, I might attend Trinity in Mesa, AZ next week. It would be my first show of you guys. I’m pretty stoked. Lives = catharsis. Wishing you guys the best start to this tour!

Do you write dozens of stories at the same time? Or like conceptualize whole stories and the like on a whim? That's what I do, that's just the vibe I'm getting from what you're saying. Also this is random but I'll be at the Mesa show! Hope to see you there.

Hey! Yes! Let’s meet up! 🤘you’ve got Twitter?

Both haha was working on one, researching on another & brainstorming on a third. Was driving me crazy. I’ll focus on one for now and after I’m

done with the first draft I’ll move to another one.

Yep @VermillionBunny!

Good idea, I don't have that same self control with stories. Lol

Wow, all of you are so creative with your writing and the process! I have literally just started on this journey. I love to read, never written anything but have always wanted to write a children's book, as have worked with children for a long time! A pipe dream, or maybe? So interesting. Thank you Ricky. Have started jotting down ideas, but sometimes feel overwhelmed, by it all! Need to do my homework!! Good luck everyone and take care 🙂

I agree about the white noise. There's something that almost gropes around in the tightest spaces in my brain. Like water filling fine cracks in a pavement.

Man, that could be the worst example I could have given but it was the first one that came to mind.. it's 1am. My brains already in shutdown 😂

I’ve got a few creative projects on the cards since I need a distraction. I’ve been struggling a lot lately with my mental health. I’m diagnosed bipolar disorder 😩 and some days it’s a real struggle to get out of bed. Your writing seriously cheers me up! Last week I had something happen that almost took my life but that happening has given me a new love for life. Each day I’m trying so hard to pull myself out of the hole I have fallen into. Right now music is my distraction! I love a good dance! Haha!

I can only get out thoughts while I'm in the shower, but as soon as the water shuts off they vanish. Someone needs to make waterproof notebooks

Acrylic markers would stay until removed! As I discovered writing on my window in support of NHS. 😹

Sometimes the creativity train just stalls for a bit. It’s still on track, it knows where it’s going, but sometimes it needs to rest, to take a break. I can definitely relate to that, I’ll get into a groove, and everything will be going great for a bit, and then all of a sudden, it just… stops. Even though I know where I want it to go, the words just don’t seem to happen, and I need to take a step back.

But in the end, regardless of how many stops you need to take, or how many things you need to fix, it always pays off. Letting yourself and your mind take a break is oftentimes the best thing for writing. It lets you really think about what you’re putting on the page and what direction you really want to take with it.

Thank you for your writing, this really made my day☺️

I used to be able to write and listen to music, sadly, not anymore. For me, it's really what I'm working on: one thing might be a struggle that takes a week to write a paragraph, and then there are projects where I will hammer out 20-30 pages in several hours. I do some freelance journalism and there are definitely days where I would rather do laundry and vacuum than write another album review.

As an writer, I'm related to "Me, I write a sentence or a paragraph and then have to stop and look something up, or get up for a drink, go pee."so much. Sometimes, I can write 1500 words in one go, no hesitation like you described how most people write their stories. But most of the time, I do excatly like you do.

Actually you really have a good point on the term "long-winded procrastination". When we try to create something whether it's art or writting or music, it's very hard to complete it in one go. So I think that's why many creators including you and me tend to procrastinate when they got stuck.

I also can't listen music while I'm writing. The words are too distracting as you said. But for some reasons, songs help me to draw better when I work on my artworks. Of course, it would be depends on the person.

I have personally found listening to movie or video game soundtracks to be a very effective background noise while writing. I personally can’t write in silence and, if I am going to have music with lyrics playing, it has to be an album that I’ve listened to so many times that I can basically just tune it out.

I absolutely get this. I put on a "comfort" movie or album and let it ground me while I work.

This is hilarious because I do the same thing when I write. I will write a sentence and then be distracted on my computer for like... 20 minutes or I'll go get a drink or go to the washroom or whatever, but I can listen to music when I write. In fact, I've been jamming out to Timebomb while I've been writing recently which is a whole other personal story for another time. I can't do that when I read though, it just messes me all up!

If I have white noise (static, waves, or rain), it puts me right to sleep and for the longest time, I used it to sleep. Many use different ways of expressing creativity and I think it's wonderful to see other comments about how others write or express their creativity.

Until the next one!

I’m one of those people that can write a whole story in one go without stopping. And it’s typically done under pressure, which I love for some reason. I procrastinated on an essay for college once and wrote 2 whole pages within 30 min or so around 1 in the morning. Half asleep and chugging a Red Bull. Took it to class the next morning and not only scored a 100 but she read it to the class as an “example of an ideal paper.”

I’d like to say that’s one of my finest moments.

My parents got on my ass all the time for procrastinating until they realized that's how I got my best work/grades. No idea why, but the pressure fuels me. I'm just weird. Ha.

The same happens to me. When I'm writing, I finish a paragraph and then I check my social media, listen to music, watch a video... Sometimes I have a great idea in mind but I feel like I need to extend that idea more and not write it directly because that would be too short, that happens to me when I write stories or fan fiction. When I write songs, sometimes it's hard for me to express what I want to say in a song (and when I read the lyrics of other bands it seems so easy!). And when I write with the need to get out what's on my mind (bad situations), it's very easy, I don't make any demands on myself and it's perfect. Sometimes I think it's hard to be a writer or an author, but it's nooooot! hahahahah

I personally put on the lofi station on YouTube. It's the only music I can really have on when I'm writing otherwise I'm the same way, too easily distracted. Before I got my freelance gigs, sitting down and writing at length was super hard, but now when I have an assignment I actually notice my focus is a lot better and I can get a 500 word article researched and written up in about an hour. My freelance totally helped me with my creative writing too! I actually sat down and knocked out a huge chunk on a random story that popped into my head, it's really exciting!

I think, for some fated reason, I needed to read this. The actual irony of me currently sitting in front of my laptop writing here and there the start of my first book and everything you’re describing is strangely close to my process. I tend to distract myself a lot and all I have is two paragraphs within yesterday and right now so far. It’s actually funny you mention music, because that is what I’m doing and I keep staring at the words trying to comprehend what it is I’m trying to create. You’re absolutely right about people’s methods being different from one another and there is no right or wrong way to do it because it is your own personal journey and certain things work for others than they would you. Like for instance, I also find that listening to music while trying to write is entirely almost impossible to not be distracting but I have a method with it that honestly, in its own weird way, kind of works. You know how you get ideas and inspirations from certain things, especially in media? I’m conjuring up a playlist that corresponds with the plot I’m trying to convey in my book and basically, whether it’s the lyrics, the instrumentals, whatever they are, they tend to be motivating me to move my story along. I’m really big on references, my head for some reason is full of them at all times. I’m trying to write a book based on vampires and I’m listening to Monster by Paramore and actually, even Fatal by your band from the Infamous album, and I’m reading the lyrics and I’m like “okay I’m getting ideas with this”. My point is, that is something that is personally helping me that not everyone can relate to and I think your whole ‘do things your own way’ narrative is pretty amazing advice to give for writers, especially new-comers like myself with a passion for it, to listen to.

when I try to concentrate it helps me to move, e.g. When I go for walks and work on the PC, I like to hear natural noises like waves on the beach or thunderstorms and rain because they calm me down and allow me to work or write better and more focused, especially if you have ADD like me^^
